Stand on the side of the door where it pushes open (swings away from you). Does the door swing to the LEFT or to the RIGHT?

Finding your Size: 

1) Measure the space between your studs

2) Subtract 2" (space for jamb and shims)

3) Find next closest door width

     ie. Rough opening measures 31-3/8"

          Subtract 2" gives 29-3/8"

          Closest door is 28" wide
